The National Library must keep at least a copy of each of the videogames developed in Spain. This measure is part of a reform approved by the Commission on Culture and Sports of the Congress of Deputies that updates the functions of the Legal Deposit. The initiative has been approved with 30 votes in favor and five against, with VOX as the only party that has not supported it.
It still does not have an immediate effect, but it is a bill that should be ratified by the Senate to enter into force. From that moment, all videogames produced in Spain will have to be collected in the national library registry by means of a digital copy, as well as a physics in the event that the game has it.
The proposal, in addition to videogames, also includes printing publications on demand, markers and commercial catalogs of libraries and auctions, and has been recognized as a conservation center to the Spanish Filmoteca.
The motivation of the bill is the preservation of all these products as part of the cultural heritage of our country, with which they begin to move away from the usual instrumentalization of the environment. Since EPE, although videogames were included within audiovisual documents in Spain, until now "they were not entering the quantities that the market of these products represents", so it is considered necessary "their individualized identification and express mention" ".
We have been listening to news about this proposal for the cataloging of the video game, and the project has the collaboration of organizations such as AEVI or DeV, as well as other private associations of collectors.
