Anyone who has already fallen by chance in a hardcore battle royal game, whether Apex Legends Warzone or even Fortnite is probably too used to being spanked by immediate and humiliating loss. These games require a certain tolerance for punishment because it is a slow climb up the ladder of skills to the real fun. On the other hand, Super Pet Royale resembles the lightest and most welcoming game imaginable. Is it?
I play Super Pet Royale PC intermittently since arriving in Early Access in 2018, and now it has reached the milestone of the final output on a PC as well as his appearance on consoles. This is a legitimate and recognizable battle royal with all the hallmarks of the genre. You parachutez on a diverse landmass, in this case called Super Animal Park, full of structures, forests, lakes and of course a treasure trove of weapons, ammunition, armor and consumables as grenades, smoke bombs and landmines. You can compete in solo, duet and team. At relatively frequent intervals, the playable area narrows and if you die, there is no recurrence. You can watch or leave and wait a few minutes for a new game. I'm not particularly detailed in my description because if you have played any of the popular battle royal games, you know the basic outline.
What sets Super Pet Royale, is above all the artistic style and design of the game that replace future soldiers by cute anthropomorphic animals of a wide range of species such as dogs, cats, foxes, birds and many others. The pregame waiting area is filled with animals tapping the head with weapons of crazy melee, running aimlessly and mass dancing on a selection of catchy melodies. It is easy to distinguish the new players of the veterans, because they will be adorned with all sorts of extravagant outfits bought with their winnings and their animal avatars will be more interesting and more advanced versions of starting animals.
Everyone gets a starting weapon, and in a true battle royale style, when he parachutes, he rushes to his weapon types, armor, health care and other favorite special items, all coded color rarity. There are a lot of guns, rifles, SMG and shotguns and many fanciful consumables such as banana peels or spray grenades to slow or stun an enemy. There are also fast transport, like rolling hamster balls. Unlike most of the battle royal games, Super Pet Royale is played from an aerial view from the top down and the controls are simple, although they require a bit of practice to be truly mastered. Combat is fast and often ended very quickly, especially for new players who have not quite mastered the controls, tactics or rhythm.
On the one hand, it's fun and light, but on the other, small cute hairy sommes killing one with powerful weapons. The sound design and music are well done and from, you know, the constant death is very family and kilometers of often toxic culture surrounding games like Warzone. The board design is simple but full of coverage opportunities and ambushes and as basic as sounds Super Pet Royale, it offers many tactical possibilities. There is no tutorial but it is not difficult to learn the basics of the game simply by watching matches. There are a ton of cosmetic items to win or buy via DLC packs the game, including new mini pet animals, but none of impact on gameplay. There is no payment to win.
The best thing about Super Pet Royale apart from its light art style is that it is reasonably satisfactory to play without requiring the kind of time commitment that these other battle royal games assume that you are willing to do . The games are fun, fast and dopamine will not even have time to leave your system before you resume it next turn. It is perhaps not the most complex game or the most graphically impressive of its kind, but Super Royal Pet achieved its objectives to be accessible, sweet and addictive.
