InGuild Wars 2 was published yesterday a new update that has returned an annual event. However, the developers brought a small change on the gameplay, which makes many players angry.
What has changed? The new patch returned the annual event Fixed the four winds. But then some balance changes to the classes and a general gameplay change. And the latter is a big problem for many players.
The gameplay change is about the fact that players have stacked many buffs to prepare for a fight to pull so well prepared in the battle. This has been done especially in the fractal and dungeons, but also in the WVW or in front of global bosses.
Due to the latest change, the buffs are now removed whenever the players:
- Change a build template
- Change an equipment template
- Change a property or specialization
- Replace the weapon
- Respawn
Officially, this change has been made to improve the stability of the game. However, many players designate this change as the worst that Arenanet has ever made.
Why is this change a problem? Stacking buffs before the fight is generally considered important mechanics in the game and is being carried out since release.
The players have stacked blessings such as power or speed to go directly with a lot of damage in the fight. This distinguishes the normal players from the really good players.
Because stacking requires the right use of skills at the right time and of course everything has to go fast, because usually the buffs run swiftly again.
Change does not affect all players, but the affected threaten with retreat from the game
What do the players criticize? Above all, the hardcore players from the fractal and WVW complain about the change:
- The game would be withdrawn an important mechanism
- Good players can not stand out so much of weaker ones
- The meta will move in the direction of state damage because it generally makes the game easier and does not require as many pre-stacks, such as class power builds
- Some skips are no longer possible because one can only stack invisibility
Roul, member of the RAID guild Snow Crows and well-known Speedrunner, wrote Meinmmo on the topic:
I find the change simply very uncertain and reckless. Unfortunately, it is not the first time that Arenanet is unaware of her actions, but now it was too far away in my opinion. The change is something negative for any kind of PVE and punishes yourself to make you more effective than others. [...]. I admit, me as a Speedrunner affects the change well with the most, but it would be dishonest and pointless to claim that it would be okay or change nothing. The patch is a deterioration in every conceivable sense.
Nico of the Snow Crows also wonders about the change. Because if only as few players were affected by the change, then it would hardly affect the server stability. He also sees Arenanet in the duty to provide new servers instead of performing such a change.
In Reddit, it is believed that the adaptation is above all aimed at the WVW, which starts the beta for the new Alliance system this summer. There like some hundred players meet. Why the change then comes for the PVE, is incomprehensible to many.
How many players really affects it? In the reddit there are now also the first threads that relativize the scope of the change slightly. For normal groups where players easily perform their buffs with their existing weapons and skills, the adaptation will not change anything (via reddit).
The Otto Normal Player, who just explore the world and want to make a dungeon, is not affected.
But just Speedrunner, fans of GVGS or big battles in WVW and generally players who want to get the maximum out of their class, prays the change a setback. For new records - basically no matter what the area of the game - seem to be impossible.
Because even in skirts you have stacked over different weapons.

What are the consequences? The change already caused some players to have announced their retreat from Guild Wars 2. Here, however, you have to mention that over the last few years just in the hardcore community has a lot of frustration.
Since 2019, there was generally a few new fractal and group content and new RAIDs has been completely dispensed with. For these players is the latest change in the nail, which closes the coffin of the hardcore community. The new extension End of Dragons will not be a RAID. However, the attack missions should be equipped there with higher difficulties.
