Initially, and without being able to realize a part in the long term, we were a little suspicious with respect to the HumanKind _ Culture Change System. To make simple and unlike a civilization where we keep as its name indicates a civilization from one end to the other of a game, _ HumanKind ** _ made a very different bold choice. Indeed, the title is separated into historical eras (until then everything is well), but at the end of each new era, we are asked to select a new culture that has historically marked it. Thus, in the transition to the classical era, it is possible to choose between Greeks, Romans or Huns. Each passage to a new era thus adds an additional culture to your nation and each player or I.A. who selects a culture blocked and makes it inaccessible for others. With this system we could have thought of a real cultural broth without form, especially at the level of military units and buildings. But it is in fact that the idea is just great and works perfectly. We will come back a little later, know in any case that part of this historic management game is shared in six sons namely:
- Neolithic ere
- Ere classic Medieval *
- Ere from the beginning of the modern age
- Ere industrial Contemporary ere
a visual and artistic slap from the first moments
The first thing we notice starting a game is the beauty of the game, which is multi-faceted. It is the most beautiful 4x we know and one of the most successful artistic speaking strategy games. Each landscape, every new discovery is an enchantment for the eyes. The developers wanted to represent the different biomes of our planet and it is a real without fault, an ode to nature. In an instant, we recognize a place, an atmosphere, a tone. And this visual enchantment is more accompanied by an exceptional audio direction. As soon as you fly over a place, with a good zoom, it is enough to close your eyes to feel like it. It must be said that _ HumanKind _ has put the package with no less than 13 hours of sound environments. This goes from the soft noise of the wind in the sand dunes with the cries of the seagulls on the coast. It's an audio-visual delight, simply. And what about the magistral work of Composer Arnaud Roy? 520 minutes of music in total who are played by no less than 63 musicians. _ HumanKind _ is a slap that sounds and we understand at the first hour of play that we have just returned to something exceptional.
A start of part exhilarating
The first phase of the game is certainly one of the most exciting that is because it is pure exploration. The card being totally random in its generation, we are constantly surprised by what we discover: a lake in the middle of a mountain chain, a desert surrounded by a river, a jungle on an island .... it Currently find the perfect place to found your first outpost, which later will become your first city. We start the game with scouts that like all units have the opportunity to claim a territory, first stammers of your future Empire. The game makes it easy for the task by telling you on the map Ideal places to claim, usually rich in resources but nothing forces their hand. To be able to place an outpost it will have to influence (in the form of a violet star at stake), a resource that we acquire over time with the sandstone of explorations, battles, technologies and buildings. At the beginning of the game it is enough to hunt some animals and explore the environment a little to have enough for a foretrus. It should be kept in mind that the other two major resources of the game are food and industry.
the cradle of your civilization
At first, we can only advise you to select an area where the food is abundant, because it is it that will make it possible to make your population grow and thus to enlarge your economic labor reserve , industrial and military. In our initial part, we had for ambition to select Babylon as first culture, luckily we found a big river in the middle of a jungle to settle (see the screenshots that dot the test). The game operating in turn, after a small fortnight, we could have our first cited: Babylon. As a civilization, the game is cut in case in hexagonal format for building and moving units. Very quickly we were able to build the ishtar door which offers a wide bonus of influence and science. To make simple we have in play:
- Food to feed and grow your population, indispensable to spread geographically and do not undergo revolt
- The industry to improve the speed of construction of your cities and your units
- Science that works like industry but for technologies, the more science you have your technologies are fast looking for
- The gold that simply allows to recruit, buy constructible objects, exchange resources with other empires and pay the maintenance of the units.
At first, you have a limit of cities to be able to base, which is why the game pushes you to build forepots in key places you can later transform into a city to exploit maximum resources. The other possibility is to pay in influence to attach a foreclosure to a city and thus create an administrative center. The advantage is that it quickly allows to expand our cities; The disadvantage is that we can draw buildings and recruit units only in a city so have only one slowly slows the development of your empire.
A race against the watch
Although the game is not stressful, reaching a new era is a real race against the watch so as not to be late on the opponents. Especially since one i.a. or a player who selects a culture you covet is particularly annoying. For this, it will have to stack the era stars that must be 7 to move on to the next. Each passage to a new era is a reset of your stars and these can acquire several ways. If the exact list appears in a specific menu, know that to win it usually have to win military victories, have a number of cities or inhabitants, or erect wonders. But unlike a civilization, _ HumanKind _ offers you many choices of victory and you are not obliged to win a game by being a real military conqueror. You can also win many economic, diplomatic and scientific victories. It all depends on the choice of civilization, each of it brings you bonuses in addition to a unit and a special building. For the Neolithic era for example, the Babylonians have a big scientific boost to take a lot of advance in terms of technology, while the Egyptians can count on a very powerful industry to quickly build buildings to expand cities.
the doors of the victory
The player or the IA who wins the most glory is the one who wins the victory and this glory is recovered with everything that has been mentioned above: military victory, advance technology, diplomatic exploit, constructions of wonders, discoveries ... the world is vast and full of points of interest. If you are the first to discover them, you can recover from glory. _ HumanKind _ You push you to continue exploring the card and do not stay in your comfortable slippers when your borders begin to emerge. Especially since amplitude had the brilliant idea to add an unexplored continent to artificially recreate the excitement of the great discoveries of the 1500s. Everything will then depend on your technological advance and your ability to navigate because in the early days. Going on the high seas is synonymous with death for your ships and boarded crew.
Always in brilliant ideas, the combat and battle system that is on its own a game in the game. Indeed, when armies meet, the game offers phases of fighting in turn in which the strategy gives way to tactics. If there is no need to expect a total WAR CA remains a huge capital gain on the competition and a great great idea to add to the very long list of positive points of _ HumanKind _.
a notification and event system that is stain
In all the perfection we cited, there is when a point. This is the system of notifications of events that is quite catastrophic, fortunately it is a problem of form and not background. To make simple, sometimes a war breaks out without even being warned or via a tiny notification as pop-up at the bottom right of the screen. Same for the events of the world as the discovery of a new place in the world or the transition to a new era / culture. You have to have an eye everywhere and it's impossible to manage. On many occasions, a nation made us diplomatic proposals without even perceiving it because it is only symbolized by three small red dots at the top left of the screen. Having been able to touch multiplayer, we also noted some desynchronization problems, which should be solved in exit. For the rest, _ HumanKind _ is the most complete and deep 4x to date.
